Almost famous.

Wendy inspired me. I like my lookalikes.

Fun fun!

So, you know that Geico commercial? The one with the caveman on the moving sidewalk in an airport? You know the song that plays in the background? It turns out, that song was written by a band. What's more, the band has written other songs, too. You should check out their kickass video. Now. Go!

Anyway, I'm looking into various positions for biotech, which, I'm told, is where the money is these days. Biotech is being hailed by some people (my brother) as the new computer industry, except that there is more stability in investing in processes to make life-saving pharmaceuticals than in, say, pitbullsweaters.com ("Your source for everything related to sweaters for pitbulls! Click here to find a rabies testing facility near you.") This bubble's a little harder to pop, I think.

The hunt is going as well as I'd expected; I found a couple of companies around the country that I'd be willing to at least look up and beg for an internship. I am currently (since about 1/2 hour ago) thinking about drug safety, and what I might be able to do with the FDA or somesuch, but I'm pretty flighty when it comes to decisions like this. It's just one more possible career to throw on the pile, like opera writer or retiree.

Cubin' it.

While on vacation, my older brother showed me how to solve a Rubik's Cube. At least, he showed me one way to do it; I have since discovered another. I have enjoyed this little puzzle so much that the stickers are peeling off; I hope to obtain a solution for this problem, too.

At any rate, I haven't been sleeping at any kind of regular schedule lately. I've actually had to skip a couple of classes this week because I was too tired to attend. This is less desirable than my usual habit of skipping classes because it would be a complete waste of my time to attend. I don't know what's going on, but it does have something to do with work. That's not the whole story, though; I've had this schedule for weeks, and this is the first time anything like this has come up. A little scary.

Well, I got paid today, so I'm off to the hardware store to see what they think about painting my Cube. Wish me luck!

Ahh, old time-wasters.

My good friend Mike introduced me to a good way to waste time, so I thought I'd do the same for all of you. The game I am putting forth (along with Doom and, occasionally, school) is how I remember the 90's. If you look around its site, you will find a mp3 for one song it inspired, as well as lyrics to another. (Does anyone know the tune to "Paint it Black"?)

So, the last two Prizes went to a Turkish author and a couple of Indian bankers, but America still got four of the six prizes, which as we know, reduces to a fraction of 2/3. And two out of three ain't bad. I've never read anything by the Literature prize winner, but I have to give props to the bankers. These guys, as I understand it, saved an entire village of people from famine and death by loaning them something like $27. Kinda shifts the perspective of that Barenaked Ladies song, huh?

Damn skippy!

So far, so good. Although the headline is misleading; it is, I believe, the fourth prize; it's just that this is the sixth American to win a prize.

Also, there appears to be an election on the horizon. Thus far, both my biology professor and James Dobson have told me that they don't care how I vote, but that I vote. I believe this to be true, in that neither of them actually cares about me, my vote, or whether or not I exist, but let's think about it for a second. If I listen to someone with an obvious political bias, and they tell me to vote (but not how!), aren't they just trying to drum up support for their own side by mobilizing their political base? Isn't telling me simply to vote also, inherently, telling me how to vote? Oh, wait. That bit is pretty obvious, isn't it... Look at me, being all politically savvy. Y'know, in a way that everyone else has already probably figured out. Go me!

Qua?

I was out shopping, and saw a license plate that read "PUREHRT". If you brag about having a pure heart, do you really have one?

For every action...

There is a smartass.

If you scroll down to the last entry on my page (or perhaps the most recently archived entry, since I'm putting this up) entitled "Deja Vu", you may examine the comment. It was posted by someone who, evidently, was displeased with the fact that I have a voice, and doesn't believe in accountability. First ever hate mail! Cool! Maybe that means my audience is growing! Or maybe not.

Anyway, I think Wendy is right. All I need is 30 seconds of Fox News (who, according to The Daily Show, represented Mark Foley as Florida's Democratic senator) and I'll be set for hours.

At any rate, I don't want to misrepresent myself. I do dearly love the Ig Nobels, and recommend everyone go out and buy any and all books on the subject.

In the news.

Three announced, I think three to go. What are the categories again? Chemistry, Physics, Medicine, Literature, Economics, and Peace?

I finally understand how people who enjoy watching sports can root for the US during the Olympics. Well, almost; these announced prizes indicate American educational opportunities (but not standards or averages; these people are clearly freaks) and ingenuity. My impression of the global educational environment has always sort of been that Europe is just a great deal better at teaching their kids than we are, and that may be true, but this year's prizes haven't gone to anyone else, now have they?

This impresses me a little bit, but if they can make one that can carry a tune, then I'll start to worry about live musicians, in much the same way the phonograph made me worry about declining concert ticket sales.

I'm supposed to be thinking about something I could rant about for five solid minutes. Often, this is not hard for me to do, but lately, nothing has inflamed my ire. Maybe I'll just kvetch about classes. They may as well do me some damn good.

One question:

Where's mine?
